U.S. President Donald Trump will speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday to discuss ways to counter threat from North Korea.
Trump and Abe will speak at 8 p.m ET. Trump's call with Xi will come 45 minutes later, CNN quoted White House statement.
No information has been provided as to what subject the phone calls would cover, but urgency of talks with China and Japan comes after Trump's meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on in Washington.
On Friday, Trump declared that the era of U.S. strategic patience with the North Korean regime "is over."
The remarks shows Trump's increased frustration over the lack of progress in curbing North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Meanwhile, Trump's national security adviser H.R. McMaster has been consulting various strategies on how to deal with Pyongyang, including the military option.
The programs are considered a grave threat to South Korea, Japan and the United States, which has thousands of troops stationed at bases in its two Asian allies. US officials are also worried that the US Pacific territory of Guam may also face a North Korean missile threat.
