Two bombers blow themselves up after police ask them to surrender in Turkey

Two suicide bombers blew themselves up after police called on them to surrender during an operation on the outskirts of national capital Ankara on Saturday.

No one else has been reported killed or hurt.

Ankara Governor Erkan Topaca said that acting on a tip off, police had launched an operation to catch a man and a woman who were being suspected of planning a suicide car bombing, reports the New York Times.

He added that they were hiding at a horse farm inside a hut of the district Haymana, just outside of the capital.

Topaca said that the police called on them to surrender, adding they did not respond in a positive way and blew themselves up before intervention.

The governor also said that it was "highly likely" that the one of them was linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which has carried out a series of suicide car bombings over the past year.

The country since last year has been rocked by a wave of bomb attacks killing hundreds of people which have been blamed either on the PKK or the Islamic State group.
