Ten fire tenders were sent to the location to douse the fire. The operation to put the blaze out took about two hours.
The incident was reported around 4.30 a.m. from the Babu Park area near the Mangolpuri Police station. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Preliminary probes suggest it may have been caused by a short circuit in a store room of one of the house.
The three buildings were homes to over 30 residents, most of whom have been evacuated.
The injured are reportedly being treated at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
The dead have been identified as 30-year-old Surekha and seven-year-old Gayatri. Both expired while being treated by doctors.
At least five people are said to have suffered over 60 per cent injuries and are serious. Further details are awaited.
