Two militants, who are suspected to be of Pakistani origin, on Sunday were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in the Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Two Pakistani militants, one belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the other belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in a gun battle," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Qayoom told the media.
"We had got information that Pakistani militants were taking shelter in Saidpora village. Security forces cordoned off the village and the militants opened fire which was retaliated upon, triggering off the gun battle," the SSP added.
