Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief over the road accident near Dewal under Tharali Tehsil of Chamoli district on Sunday.
"In this hour of sorrow, along with providing patience to the families of deceased, we wish for the early recovery of the injured," an official statement issued by the government stated.
Chief Minister Rawat has instructed the District Magistrate of Chamoli to provide immediate assistance to the families of the deceased as well as to make proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured.
Rawat has also given instructions for a magisterial inquiry into the vehicle accident.
Eight persons died after a vehicle fell into Kail river in Dewal area of the Chamoli district.
Rescue operations are underway.
