A detention of the partner of a Guardian journalist has forced editors of newspapers including Sweden's Dagens Nyheter to write to Prime Minister David Cameron, saying it is a threat to press freedom.
According to The Guardian, in an open letter to David Cameron published in today's Observer, the editors of Denmark's Politiken, Sweden's Dagens Nyheter, Norway's Aftenposten and Finland's Helsingin Sanomat describe the detention of David Miranda, the partner of the Guardian's Glenn Greenwald, as harassment.
The Metropolitan police detained David Miranda for nine hours last Sunday as he was passing through Heathrow on his way to Brazil, the report said.
His partner, Glenn Greenwald has broken a series of stories about the US intelligence agencies based on material leaked by the National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden, the report added.
The editors wrote that they were surprised by the recent acts by officials of the British government against their colleagues at the Guardian and deeply concerned that a stout defender of democracy in the form of United Kingdom was using anti-terror legislation wrongly.
