Ukrainian troops have reportedly pulled back from Donetsk airport's main terminal, which has witnessed intense fighting in recent weeks.
The government said that the army still retained control over parts of the airport but added that the fighting had killed six soldiers and wounded 16, reported the BBC.
A spokesman for the president said that an emergency meeting had been called to discuss the rebel attacks, which Kiev claims are backed by Russia.
It was the second such meeting of the day.
