'Unfortunate if we follow Modi's very low level jingoism on foreign policy': Khurshid

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday countered Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's criticism of the UPA's foreign policies, particularly with regard to Pakistan, and said it would be really very unfortunate if India's foreign policy was to be anyway influenced by this kind of very low level jingoism.

"As far as foreign policy is concerned, I can only say that it would be really very unfortunate if our foreign policy was to be anyway influenced by this kind of very low level jingoism," he said, when asked about Modi questioning India's foreign policy regards Pakistan.

Khurshid said that Modi heads a desperate party which has convinced itself that if it doesn't get anywhere in these elections then it might as well write itself off.

"They are beyond their top leaders who have dominated the politics of their party, Vajpayeeji and Advaniji, and I think they are absolutely desperate, that despite the stature of those leaders, they couldn't get to power," he added.

Khurshid said Modi's irresponsible kind of politics is espousing in his speeches, which do not deserve a serious reply.

"When the campaign comes, we will put out the good work we have done, the thoughtful things we have tried to do for the country," he added.

Addressing a rally in Kanpur, Modi earlier in the day, lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for remaining silent on the ceasefire violations and Line of Control (LoC) killings.

"When our jawans were beheaded, our Prime Minister said sternly, 'If this is repeated, we will see'. Our neighbours taunt us with incursions and the government in Delhi serves chicken biryani meals," he said.
