The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ramesh Shivhare, one of the key accused in the Vyapam scam, in a joint operation here on Wednesday.
"He was arrested from 3, Avas Vikas Parishad in Kalyanpur Police Station of Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. The STF was following him from many days. He was arrested following a tip off," said STF Superintendent of Police Dr. Arvind Chaturvedi.
Shivhare has been accused of acting as a middleman and arranging for impostors and dummy candidates to appear in the examination carried out by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board commonly known as Vyapam for an undisclosed amount.
His application for anticipatory bail was also turned down by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2014.
The CBI will produce him in the district court today and request for his transit remand.
He will be later taken to Bhopal for further interrogation.
