US adult's average penis is 5.6 inches long when erect

The average penis size of an American man is 5.6 inches- about 14.2 centimeters- long when erect, a new poll has revealed.

A researcher at Indiana University, and her colleagues surveyed 1,661 men to measure their penis's length and girth for the purposes of fitting for a condom.

It was found that the smallest erect penis in the study was about 1.6 inches (4 cm) long, while the largest was 10.2 inches (26 cm) long, the Huffington Post reported.

The study, which suggested that all erections are not created equal, also found that the average penile girth was about 4.8 inches (12.2 cm).

Herbenick said that men, who became aroused through oral sex reported larger penis size on average than those who attained erections through fantasizing

It was revealed that other characteristics of a man, like his race or orientation, weren't good predictors of his member's size.

The study was published online in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
