A top U.S. military official has reportedly said that the United States has a "winning strategy" to defeat the Islamic State (IS) and that he "can't foresee" sending large ground troops to Iraq.
General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the U.S. has received a "significant commitment" from other members of the anti-IS coalition to add advisory teams. While stressing that he does not see a need to send American ground troops to Iraq, he also added that "war is discovery" and that if the situation evolves to a point where ground troops are necessary, he will evaluate that and make recommendations to President Barack Obama.
He also said that he was confident that the U.S. can assist Iraq to "keep Baghdad from falling.
