Emphasizing on diplomacy and strengthening of international rules, U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday said that US has worked with many nations to prevent a third World War.

"Seventy years after the founding of the United Nations, it is worth reflecting on what together the members of this body have helped to achieve," Obama said at the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"Out of the ashes of the Second World War, having witnessed the unthinkable power of the atomic age, the United States has worked with many nations in this assembly to prevent a third World War," he added.

The US President dubbed the brutality on captives by IS and other terror groups as 'assault on humanity'.

"When a terrorist group beheads captives, slaughters the innocent and enslaves women, that is an assault on all humanity," he said.

Speaking on US-Cuba relations, Obama said, "For 50 years, the US pursued a Cuba policy that failed to improve the lives of the Cuban people. We changed that."

The US President praised the efforts of the United Nations to improve human development, increase international cooperation and resolve crisis, while also reducing poverty, and advancing democracy and individual liberties on every continent.
