A new video footage of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden when he was in Hong Kong has been reportedly released in which Snowden said that US government will say that he aided the enemies by leaking the classified data.
Snowden in the interview describes how his take on the US security and intelligence changed over the course of time when he was enlisted in the US army in 2002.
According to the Independent, Snowden said that he believed in the goodness of what they did and in the nobility of the intentions to free oppressed people overseas.
However, with his increased exposure to true information that had not been propagandised in the media he realized the truth that they were involved in misleading the public in order to create a certain mindset in the global consciousness.
In the footage Snowden further said that the NSA lied about the existence of the tool, called 'Boundless Informant' which collected 'metadata' about citizens, to Congress and to specific Congressmen in response to previous enquires about their surveillance inquiries.
He added that though America is a fundamentally good country and has good people with good values who want to do the right thing, however, the structures of power that exist are working to their own ends to extend their capability at the expense of the freedom of all publics, the report added.
