Anand Shankar, former DGP of Bihar, who has closely monitored the fight against Naxalism, believes that use of better technology by security forces and public discussion are keys to solving the problem of 'red terror'.
"Naxalism is a very serious problem and a combined policy has to be made to tackle it. There is a strong need to adopt latest technology, communication and hi-tech operations by security forces," Shankar said.
Described as the biggest threat to internal security of the nation by the Indian government, left-wing extremism has plagued the country for decades now.
Shankar suggests that views and suggestions from general public can help the administration a great deal in solving the problem.
"The government should ask for suggestions from the common people to solve this problem. The suggestions will come from varied sources which would help the government a great deal. An expert committee should also be formed to review the suggestions," Shankar said.
He also added that Naxalism is a threat to Indian democracy and it calls for immediate attention from concerned authorities.
"The situation is very alarming. It calls for serious attention from all quarters and a stern step needs to be taken immediately to preserve democratic institutions of the country," Shankar said.
Meanwhile, the government has introduced a nine-point Integrated Action Plan to develop Naxal affected areas to win over the hearts and minds of people.
