Manchester United fans have claimed that forward Wayne Rooney, who had been balding once, loves new boss Louis van Gaal so much that he is trying to copy the Dutchman's hairdo.

Rooney has reportedly shelled out thousands on two hair transplants and is using pricey potions to help thicken his thatch.

But now Rooney's mane is growing so well that he has been able to fashion a quiff, just like Van Gaal, The Daily Star reported.

United fans were quick to point out the striker's new hairdo. But they also thought that the 28-year-old England star might need to shell out for yet another transplant before he is able to go the whole hog.

A fan tweeted that Rooney looks like he's growing a quiff like the boss, adding that another transplant is needed to finish the look.

Another fan felt that an extra layer of hairspray was needed to complete the job. On a United fans' forum a fan wrote that Rooney seems to be growing his hair to look like Van Gaal, adding that more hairspray is definitely needed.

Rooney has been quick to heap praise on his new boss after he made him captain in United's pre-season games and copying the Dutchman's hairdo could be the perfect way to ensure he keeps the armband for the start of this season.

The 3,00,000 pounds-a-week star had his first transplant in 2011 and posted a picture of his newfound hairline on Twitter. And a year ago he underwent a nine-hour operation at London's Harley Street Hair Clinic for his second, the report added.
