A delegation led by Padma Vibhushan Dharmasthala Virendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala in Karnataka , met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the national capital with a representation to include the Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
During the meeting yesterday, the delegation pointed out that Tulu language is one of the most ancient Dravidian languages, which has a highly developed literature and culture and is spoken widely amongst all religions and castes by more than one crore people across the world.
The delegation also pointed out that Tuluvas has contributed highly to the nation in the areas of banking, education, health, corporates and other academical fields.
A detailed report was presented to Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the history and evolution of the Tulu language, which was keenly heard by them.
The delegation comprised of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Janaki Bramhavar, Kerala Tulu Academy president Subbaya Rai, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy's past presidents Dr Vamana Nandavara and Shri Umanath Kotian, Registrar of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Chandrahasa Rai, Akhila Bharatia Tulu Okkuta president Dharmapal U Devadiga and social activists Surendra Kumar Heggade , A. C. Bhandary.
The President of the Delhi Karnataka Sangha Vasantha Shetty Bellare and its general secretary C.M. Nagaraja coordinated the programme.
