Want Winter Session to be remembered for Lokpal Bill: Sushma Swaraj

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said on Thursday that the Opposition wants the Winter Session of Parliament to be remembered for the Lokpal Bill, and added that the government is trying to wrap up the session to run away from a no-confidence motion moved by its own party members.

"In this session, we have a new example in front of us. The ruling party's own MPs have brought a no-confidence motion against their own government. The government, instead of containing its MPs, is trying to wrap up parliament and run away," Swaraj claimed.

"There has been a thorough discussion on the Lokpal Bill, and then, it was passed in the Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, the select committee removed all flaws in the bill with unanimous recommendations. We want this session to be remembered for the Lokpal Bill," Swaraj added.

"There was a rumour that today they will get supplementary demands for Grants (General) and supplementary demands for grants (Railways) passed amidst din, and will postpone the Lok Sabha, and will do the same in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow," she added.

"I objected to this with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath. Why does the government call a session, when it is not able to run it properly? They have the primary responsibility to run Parliament. This time, the opposition is also willing to cooperate with the government. We want the Lokpal Bill to be passed along with the supplementary demands for grants," Swaraj said.
