Warner suspended for one match by Cricket NSW for skipping grade club game

Australian batsman David Warner has reportedly been suspended for one match by Cricket New South Wales (NSW) after he failed to turn up for a grade club match last weekend.

The suspension is the latest in a long line of indiscretions for the left-hander this year following a Twitter war-of-words with two Australian sports journalists and a punch on England batsman Joe Root during Australia's failed Champions Trophy campaign.

According to News.com.au, although Warner missed the match for his grade club, Randwick-Petersham, to undergo specialist fitness and batting training, he, however, admitted that he should have played in the match, adding that he is still working on improving his actions off the field.

Hoping that the suspension would be the last disciplinary issue Warner will face, Cricket NSW chief executive Andrew Jones said that even though the board would like Warner to achieve his potential, it is necessary to ensure that he is on the right path and working closely with the organisation in all areas.

Jones also said that he believes that the suspended sentence will give Warner an opportunity to prove his commitment to NSW's fans and stakeholders, including the grade clubs.

The report mentioned that as a part of his punishment, Warner will also be forced to play the next two grade games for Randwick-Petersham, and a third if his Ryobi Cup commitments permit, and will also be made to visit other grade clubs to promote the messages of NSW sponsor Transport NSW.
