Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is reportedly set to learn whether or not he would be fit to play for the winter Ashes after his troublesome left hamstring is examined in detail by the Cricket Australia (CA) medical staff, who would then map out a treatment plan.
Watson arrived back in Sydney on Monday after failing to finish an over while bowling in Australia's series-deciding one-day loss to India in Bangalore last Saturday.
According to Telegraph.com.au, although Watson had claimed that he is confident of being fit for the first Test, beginning at Brisbane's Gabba from November 21, however his long and troubled injury history suggests that his chances of playing, particularly as an all-rounder, are limited.
Stating that his body has adjusted to bowling, Watson called his injury as a 'little hiccup', adding that he hoped to freshen up and be ready to go for the first Test while being in Australia some time behind the other players.
The report mentioned that Watson had suffered a leg 'niggle' during the first Test of the Ashes at Trent Bridge but was able to bowl again later in the match.
Watson has played just 46 of a possible 98 Tests because of constant injuries and missed the entire 2006-07 season with ongoing hamstring problems, the report added.
