Waugh calls for patience with current 'talented' Oz side despite Ashes struggles

Former Australian Test captain Steve Waugh has called for the need to be patient with the current Australian squad struggling in the Ashes, saying that the team has 'heaps of talent'.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Waugh, who is on the publicity trail for his self-published book 'The Meaning of Luck' containing revealing insights into life after cricket, criticised the 'knee-jerk' reaction of Australia about needing to be great and winning all the time.

Stating that the attitude was the same with Australia's Olympic team and their swimming squad, Waugh believed that the side could come back to their former glory, adding that it may take either a young player like Usman Khawaja or Steve Smith to spark that success, like Mark Taylor did with his century in 1989.

According to Waugh, he was so inspired by Taylor's century that he scored one himself the next day, adding that as such feeling is contagious, it is necessary to back the squad and give them confidence, and tone down the volume of criticism.
