Wayne Rooney might get to wear the No. 23 shirt at Chelsea, as the likelihood of a transfer to the Stamford Bridge Club increases, with the number having the most commercial appeal after being sported by Beckham at Real Madrid and US basketball star Michael Jordan.
According to the Daily Star, the No.23 became available at Stamford Bridge in January when striker Daniel Sturridge was sold to Liverpool.
The report said that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is playing a waiting game over Rooney as he remains confident the striker will be his player before the transfer window closes.
Mourinho has not made a follow-up offer to the 20 million pound bid rejected by United 10 days ago, the report added.
