Former South African skipper Kepler Wessels has insisted that his country's squad should not blame the spin-friendly conditions for the Test series loss in India.
South Africa saw their nine-year away win streak end after suffering a 124-run defeat against the Virat Kohli-led side in the third Test in Nagpur last week. India have taken a 2-0 unassailable lead in the four-match series.
However, several former players have slammed the spin-friendly conditions in India, which saw the Nagpur Test end inside three days.
Reacting to it, Wessels said that each country has their preference in preparing surfaces to suit the strength of their team, insisting that he couldn't recall any negative comment about the bowler-friendly pitches in which South Africans outclassed Australia and Pakistan swiftly at home, Sport24 reported.
Wessels, who represented his nation in 40 Tests and 109 ODIs, further said that it was far from ideal to blame conditions for defeat and become a nation of whiners when a team is playing in away conditions.
He insisted that the home team outplayed South Africa in every facet of the game over the last three Test matches in India and urged the tourists to take the disappointment on the chin.
