The White House is going to respond to the petition that calls for the Canadian pop star Justin Bieber's deportation, according to press secretary Jay Carney.

The White House is obligated to respond to whitehouse.gov petitions that get more than 100,000 names, which the Bieber petition did this week, Politico reported.

Carney said to a question from NBC's Peter Alexander that the process is going to occur as is our commitment when the threshold is crossed, asserting that the response is going to come relatively soon.

The teen icon, who is in the US on a temporary work visa, was arrested last week on DUI charges and resisting arrest. A petition was created the same day, urging the White House to revoke his permission to be in the country.
