Windows Phone platform has reportedly passed BlackBerry in the US as the third-largest smartphone platform, a report by comScore has revealed.

With Apple and Samsung dominating the first two spots respectively, Windows Phone manufacturer, Microsoft, has struggled to convince the American users to adopt its platform.

However, it has still outperformed struggling smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry, which was caught flatfooted by the success of the Apple iPhone and simply never recovered its stride, PC World reports.

The firm noted that BlackBerry's share was now 3.1 percent of the US smartphone market, compared to Android's dominant 51.7 percent share and Apple's iOS having 41.6 percent share.
