Winter Session 'victim of strategies aimed to paralyse Parliament': Naidu

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday slammed the Opposition for not letting the Parliament function; saying just concluded Winter Session became the victim of strategy which was aimed to paralyse it.

"The nation is disappointed in the manner in which the Parliament functioned in the Winter Session. The nation needs to be given an explanation by the Congress as to why they did not let the Rajya Sabha function," Naidu told the media here.

"All international agencies are saying that India is most favoured destination for investments, but our friends in the Opposition don't respect the mandate of the people and are creating obstacles for us," he added.

Naidu further said that the ruling dispensation at the Centre was ready to discuss issues but for that the House needed to function; but the opposition did not allow the house to function.

"The Congress feels threatened by this Prime Minister and the government and they want to sabotage parliament and democracy," he added.

Claiming that the ruling regime didn't do anything wrong, Naidu said "No minister has done anything wrong; no one can raise a finger on us."

"Something happened in Delhi and District Cricket Association in 2012, and they didn't let Parliament to function in 2015," he added.

Meanwhile both the houses were adjourned sine die today. The Congress lawmakers continued to disrupt the proceedings over the alleged irregularities in DDCA, demanding the resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Amid the uproar created by the opposition, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed the question hour.
