Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced that it will start local production in India within the next 18 months.
According to China Daily, Xiaomi entered the Indian market in July last year and sold over a million phones within five months.
Xiaomi's vice president of international operations Hugo Barra said that they want to invest deeply in India with a good amount of research and development in the region.
Barra said that Xiaomi is in talks with local partners and state governments to evaluate various locations for setting up manufacturing unit.
He did not mention how much the company is prepared to invest in India.
