Noted political scientist and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav, who is set to face the axe from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for his political affiliation, on Thursday said that there seems to be some politics behind the entire episode.
Yadav, who became a member of the UGC during Kapil Sibal's tenure as the HRD Minister, said he had offered to quit soon after he joined the AAP, but was asked to continue.
"There seems to be some politics. I don't know who is playing the politics. I was told by the Ministry (HRD) that it (my joining politics) wasn't going to be problem. So, I need not resign," said Yadav.
"They maybe in rush to push some measure under UGC which I would have blocked," he added.
The Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry has issued a show-cause notice to Yadav, seeking his response within seven days on why he should not be removed from the post of member UGC.
According to reports, the HRD Ministry in its notice issued earlier on Wednesday contended that since Yadav is now a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he has a conflict of interest.
This is for the first time in the Commission's 57-year history that a member of the UGC is being removed.
