Ahead of the second and final phase of voting in Chhattisgarh on November 20, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would emerge victorious in the state for the fourth consecutive term and the menace of Naxalism would be completely wiped out from the state.
"The BJP is the need of the hour in Chhattisgarh. The kind of support all the section of the people has for Raman Singh, I am confident that the BJP will form the next government for the fourth consecutive term. This will help Chhattisgarh project itself as a role model in the field of development and good governance at the national level," said Yogi while addressing a press conference.
"The fourth term of Raman Singh will not only root out the menace of Naxalism from the state but will also help Chhattisgarh emerge as a role model of development and good governance for the other states in the country," he added.
"So as far as the Congress party is concerned, we should know that a party is run by the leader, the kind of policies and the intent it has. Unfortunately, the Congress is leaderless not only in Chhattisgarh but also at the national level," he said.
The first phase of elections in Chhattisgarh was held for 18 seats, distributed in eight Naxal-affected districts on November 12. The polling for remaining 72 seats will be held on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 11. A total of 1,291 candidates are in the fray.
In 2013 assembly elections, the BJP bagged 49 seats, Congress got 39, Bahujan Samajwadi Party and an Independent candidate got one seat each in the 90-member assembly.
