Youth Congress protest against RSS chief's statement on Mother Teresa

The Youth Congress on Tuesday staged a protest against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat over his reported remark that the sole objective of Mother Teresa's service to the poor was to convert people to Christianity.

"RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has given a statement against Mother Teresa and all those people who have worked for nobility. It is equal to insulting all the people of the nation," said a protester.

"Mohan Bhagwat has given a statement regarding Mother Teresa who is a Nobel Prize winner and has done so much for Indians. May be she is a born foreigner but has died as an Indian. We definitely condemn his (Mohan Bhagwat's) statement,' said another protester.

"He has to apologise for this in front of the nation. She has not done any conversion as far as the records say. There is no bad name for Mother Teresa anywhere. That is why, she had got the Nobel Peace Prize for her work, for her nobility, not for conversion," he added.

Bhagwat's comment was made at an NGO function in Rajasthan on Monday.

"Here, the service isn't like Mother Teresa's. Her service would have been good, but it used to have one objective: to see that the person who was being helped felt obliged to become a Christian," Bhagwat had said.

However, RSS leader Dr. M. Vaidya defended Bhagwat by saying that the media was wrongly interpreting the RSS chief's statement.

"Media reporting wrongly. At Bharatpur, in reply to a query Bhagwatji said, "let Mother Teresa know her motive for seva, we do seva without expecting any returns," said Vaidya in a series of tweets.
