Ford, the American carmaker has adopted a new strategy of developing vehicles on single 'Global Platform', which saved the time, money and helped the company to price its vehicle competitive. The company has shifted its focus to its upcoming global cars launching worldwide in 2014-15. One such car is 2015 Ford Figo, which will come as a replacement of Ka hatchback that is being sold in developed markets. According to media reports, the next generation Ka aka Figo will be launched by early next year in the UK, and there are possibilities that it could be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
The next generation Ford Figo will be based on the old Fiesta platform. The company will use thin, high-strength steel throughout, and is expected to make a lightweight city car platform. This platform surely needs a modification and will be shortened to make best use of it. The vehicle will feature the company's 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine in both turbo and naturally aspirated form.
Ford Figo has been the company's top selling car until EcoSport launched in India, and the American automaker will love to further improve its numbers. And it is speculated that the next Figo will come to our country by the late next year or by early 2015. The vehicle will be made available in both diesel and petrol guise. While the petrol model will get the 1-litre EcoBoost engine, the diesel Figo will be powered by the 1.5-litre TDCI turbo diesel engine.
Ford India could also pitch the next generation model against the likes of Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20, so it might come with automatic transmission as well, however nothing has been confirmed on the same.
