Carlos Ghosn said today at the global premier of Renault Kwid in India that Nissan’s product - Datsun RediGO will be not a badge-engineered Kwid, rather will be entirely different in terms of looks!
Renault has unveiled today its new entry level Kwid crossover styled vehicle in the country and is scheduled to go on sale in the coming festive season in-between September and November. On the other hand, Carlos Ghosn, CEO Renault, Nissan and Renault-Nissan Alliance said that Nissan’s version, that is Datsun RediGO, will feature different styling compared to the Kwid and will be launched in India next year. Moreover, both of the vehicle’s concept versions were revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, although, Kwid is making an early entry among the two in our market.
The production version will be a toned down version of the flashy concept Datsun showcased at the Auto Expo. And as you can see in the images, the vehicle look fairly different compared to KWID. However, they both look crossover styled vehicles with prominent wheel arches, high ground clearance and taller proportions. Apart from these, similar to the Kwid, RediGO will also share the Renault-Nissan alliance CMF-A platform (CMF - stands for Common Module Family).
Though Renault did not reveal much about the powertrain of the Kwid, but the company enlighten that the vehicle get 800 cc motor and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Expect the same setup for the Datsun’s RediGO. Moreover, there were also reports suggesting that Renault is going to put AMT - Automated-Manual Transmission from ZF Sachs, most likely in the new KWID. RediGO might get the same!
