Fiat says “Tell us, which FIAT would you love to see?” We definitely have our answer. Do you?
“Watch out for the newest addition to the FIAT Stable, unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!” This is what the Fiat India’s Facebook post reads, and it brings joy to our hearts. The reason for this is simple, what you see in the picture is a three-door version of the iconic Punto. The car, although, sculpted in the same mould as the five-door hatch, but looks much more sportier. Apart from the missing doors, the car also features multispoke alloys which add to the sportiness of the car. These are 14 spoke alloys which look stunning. Also, the car gets slightly different boot layout with the name placed in the center, just below the Fiat insignia.
This teaser comes soon after the news of a three-door Volkswagen Polo GTI being introduced in India. Last car to be launched in India with such a configuration was Zen Steel and Carbon. Introduced in 2003, these versions of the popular Zen hatchback did not gain popularity due to reduced practicality.
The car comes with a sporty appeal. Just by looking at the car, you know that it’s built to perform. In India, the three-door hatch will most likely share its mill with its five-door sibling. Currently, there is an option among 3 engines, which are - the 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engine, which produces 75bhp of power and 197Nm of torque; the petrol 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre FIRE which produce 68bhp with 96Nm of torque and 90bhp with 115Nm of peak torque respectively. We would love if the three-door Punto also gets dipped in the Abarth stoup. This will give the car a 1.4-litre T-Jet capable of 145bhp.
