Nissan has officially announced the launch of Datsun brand on July 15 at a function in the Kingdom of Dreams in Delhi. It is also expected that the Renault-Nissan Alliance president, Carlos Ghosn will participate in the function and unveil the car.
It is well known that the first Datsun car (codenamed K2) will be based on the previous generation Micra's K12 platform, but will get an all new design and sit below the current Micra. The company said that the new car will be smaller in size, but will have roomier interiors.
Nissan bets on Datsun, and believes to improve its market share in the Indian car market. The company is aiming to sell around 1.5 to 2 lakh units of Datsun vehicles. The Datsun will be introduced in the developing country's like Russia, Indonesia and Africa, along with our nation. The small car (codenamed K2) will be followed by a sedan and the SUV, which are expected to be officially revealed at the occassion of 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The hatchback will be competing with the A+/B segment cars, and it will also have the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that does duty in Nissan's Micra.
