Ford has taken the wraps off its special edition one-off vehicle, 2015 F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang GT which will be donated by Ford and sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity event. The event is scheduled on July 31, 2014 during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, stated as the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.

The car is based on the top of the line Mustang GT with exterior covered with Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II design along with carbon fiber wider front splitter, rocker moldings and rear diffuser. The 2015 F-35 Lightning II Edition features a matte titanium body paint matched with yellow & blue accents. The exterior sports gold-tinted windows inspired from the early F-35 fighters. The car rides on Forgiato-created custom 21-inch wheels featuring yellow-painted brake calipers. The manufacturer also lowered the height of car by using Eibach springs instead of stock springs.

The interior also embraces the yellow color scheme with Recaro bucket seats adding more to its cockpit design. The instrument cluster is also redesigned and one can see the F-35 Lightning II elements embarked on the floor mats and seats along with a custom audio system.

Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford Board of Directors said, “The idea to model one of our specialty builds after the F-35 was four years in the making, under discussion even as we created the SR-71 Blackbird Mustang for auction in 2010. Just as the F35 was designed with unprecedented capabilities and versatility in mind, we felt it would be a natural fit to pair with the all-new 2015 Mustang,”

EAA Young Eagles is an organization which provides free introductory flights for young and aspiring aviators and support the cause, Ford has donated seven vehicles since 2008. The money obtained through the auction is used in organizing free flights  and since 1992 EAA Young Eagles has organised free flights for almost two million people.

Jack Pelton, EAA chairman of the board said, “Ford has been a committed sponsor of EAA and AirVenture for 15 years, bringing incredible value to those who make Oshkosh the highlight of their aviation year.” He further added, “With its seventh Mustang donation, Ford continues to excite with its specialty vehicles, which reflects the depth of Ford’s commitment and allows EAA to provide support to its valuable programs and dedicated members in helping us grow the next generation of aviators.”
