After launching the CLA 45 AMG, Mercedes-Benz India is now prepping to bring its GLA compact crossover in the country. Expected to launch in the festive season, brand's dealerships across the country have already started taking the pre-booking orders, and the booking amount is said to be INR 2 Lakh.
Like the A, B and the CLA-class, the GLA is also built on the same MFA platform. The GLA-class will be Merc’s smallest and cheapest SUV offering till date. The GLA gets a prominent front end with diamond-pattern grille and a pair of bi-xenon head-lamps infused with LED daytime running lights. While the cabin comes loaded with tech features, a wide range of seat upholsteries and colour options and a long list of customisation options. In terms of equipment, the SUV gets active parking assist, front and rear parking sensors, nine airbags, navigation system, dual-zone climate control and a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth and voice connectivity.
Internationally, the SUV is sold in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants packs a 1.6-litre four-pot mill, that produces 156 bhp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. Whereas the diesel line-up comes equipped with a 2.2-litre powertrain, that churns out 135 bhp and 300 Nm of max. torque. Both engines come coupled to a common 7-Speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
To be priced around INR 30 Lakhs, the Mercedes Benz GLA-class will compete against the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Volvo V40 Cross Country, after its arrival in the Indian market. And considering the brand's increasing focus on the AMG versions, the performance-oriented trim of GLA crossover might also make its entry in the country soon.
