We reported earlier that Honda, the Japanese car maker will launch four new products in the Indian car market. The four vehicles are next-generation Honda Jazz, Brio based MPV (aka Honda Mobilio), New Honda City and a Jazz based compact crossover. Now reports are there that the company is planning to present three vehicles out of four at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Honda will premier new Jazz, City and Mobilio at the show, while compact crossover is likely to be launched by 2015. It seems like Honda is ready to capture the major chunk in the Indian car market in the near future.
New Jazz will be the first product to come to India, followed by Brio based MPV (Mobilio) and City sedan. It is also expected that the new Jazz will be launched soon after the Expo ends. The Brio MPV will be launched by mid 2014 and City sedan by the year end. As of now, the Japanese automaker is working upon increasing their manufacturing capacity, as the new Rajasthan facility will begin production by next year and double the production capacity, from the current number of 150,000 units/year.
More interestingly, all these new cars will be made available in both diesel and petrol fuel options. The diesel engine in all four vehicles is likely to be a 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine that develops 98bhp (best in class) and powers the Honda Amaze compact sedan. While the new Jazz will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine, the Jazz based compact crossover could get either 1.2-litre or 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine. The new City and Mobilio MPV will be powered by the tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that develops 116bhp of power.
The new Honda City too based on the new Jazz platform and it will be locally produced at the company's Rajasthan manufacturing unit. While the Brio, Amaze and the upcoming Brio MPV will be developed in Greater Noida plant, the new Jazz, City and Jazz based crossover will be manufactured at the Rajasthan plant.
