India's second largest carmaker Hyundai Motors India has officially announced to launch the much anticipated Grand i10 in India on 3rd September, a week before its global debut at the 12th Frankfurt Motor Show, which is scheduled to start on 10th September. Hyundai will position the Grand i10 between the company's two top-selling hatchbacks i10 and i20. However, the company hasn't officially started the bookings of the car, several Hyundai dealers across the country have started taking pre-orders for the car. For instance in Delhi, we spoke to two different Hyundai dealers, who are taking a sum of Rs. 25,000- 40,000 to get the car booked. Whereas, a few Mumbai dealers too are taking pre-orders against the sum of Rs. 50,0000.
The engine options to be offered with the car are a 1.1-litre U2 diesel and a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol mill. While the 1.1-litre U2 diesel engine will be a new entrant in the Indian market, the 1.2-litre Kappa is the same powering the existing i10 and i20.
The Grand i10 will have several exciting features including the Rear AC vents, which will be the first in class. Other features to be offered in the car are height adjustable driver's seat, reversing camera, electric ORVMs and many others. In terms of safety, the Grand i10 is likely to come up with some advanced ones like ABS and airbags. And having a longer wheelbase than the regular i10, it is also more spacious.
As mentioned above, the company will position the Grand i10 between the i10 and the i20, so the starting price which we are expecting the car to have is around Rs. 4.5-5 lakh.
