The Korean car expert, Hyundai, has recalled 2,63,000 cars to check and rectify a faulty sensor in the steering that could cause drivers to lose power-assist. While all the recalled vehicle are from USA and Canada, there are no reports of such issue in India.

Recalled cars include Elantra and Elantra Touring, made between November 1, 2008 to April 30, 2010. Till now, there are no reports of accidents or complaints and the company officials haven't made any comments on this.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the affected sensor could detect inconsistency in the steering input and signal, thus, disabling the power assisted steering. This will force the steering to go manual, as a result the driver will have to apply greater effort at slow speeds, increasing the risk of crash.

Speaking of India, Hyundai recalled around 2,437 units of its premium SUV Santa Fe in mid 2014. But then it wasn’t a serious issue as it was just a Stop Light switch that kept on after the brake pedal was released.

On the other hand, there is another major launch coming our way, Hyundai i20 Active, on March 17. It will be a crossover and will be based on Elite i20’s platform. Also, Hyundai India is gradually expanding its portfolio and with a couple of vehicles coming this year, it will further spread its roots deeper in Indian auto sector. Another important launch of its much hyped compact SUV, ix25 is coming in a couple of month’s time.
