Maruti Ignis is all set to arrive at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo which will be held in Noida. The car will be a part of Maruti’s lineup for the automobile event, where it will be displaying new technologies in cars like Baleno RS and Vitara Brezza.
Ignis was first unveiled at Tokyo Motor Show 2015 and will compete against the likes of Mahindra’s KUV100. For the Expo, only concept Ignis is expected to be revealed, while the production car is pegged to be launched later this year. We expect the price to fall in somewhere between Rs. 4.5 lac to Rs. 7 lac.
Mechanically, Ignis is likely to be powered by the same engine present in Baleno. Baleno gets a 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine, generating a maximum power of 74 bhp with 190 Nm torque. On the petrol side, it is energised by 1.2 litre engine producing a maximum power of 83.1 bhp.
Following the announcement made last year, Maruti recently raised prices of its models. While it raised the cost of its entry-level hatchback Alto and S Cross by Rs. 1,000 - Rs. 4,000, Baleno’s price was hiked by Rs. 5,000 - Rs. 12,000. The increase in costs also come at a time when other carmakers like Toyota, Skoda and Tata have implemented price hike. Maruti observed an overall sales growth of 13% in 2015.
