Maruti has revealed its micro-SUV, Ignis, at the ongoing automobile event, the 2016 Auto Expo. The car will rival Mahindra’s KUV100, the only other car in this newly formed segment. The car is equipped with some latest features like Dual Camera Braking System (DCBS), front, side and rear camera for parking assist and lane management system. Safety features include ABS with EBD and airbags for passengers. 2WD comes as standard in Ignis and 4WD system is available as an optional feature. It is facilitated by hill descent and a rough terrain system.
The India bound Ignis, comes with a 1.3L MultiJet diesel engine, capable of generating a maximum power of 74 bhp with peak torque of 190 Nm. The petrol engine, on the other hand, is a 1.2L VTVT mill. While KUV100 comes with an extra seat (6-seater car), giving it an edge over Maruti’s offering, Ignis is more spacious inside, giving a more luxurious feel to occupants. Its significantly reduced weight will further help it compensate for less powerful engine.
Ignis is 3,700mm long, 1,660mm wide and 1,595 mm tall. It gets a good ground clearance of 180mm, keeping in mind the SUV character. The wheelbase measures 2,435mm and gets a boot volume of 258 litres. It can be increased to 415 litres with rear seats folded. Ignis will join Baleno and S-Cross, as it will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa dealership. Japanese version of Ignis is powered by a 1.25L, four-cylinder K12C DualJet petrol engine churning out a maximum power of 90 bhp with 118 Nm torque.
