Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch its A-Class premium hatchback in India on 30th May 2013. With A-Class, the German luxury car manufacturer will enter into an all-new segment, and it will be the first of its class sport hatchback in India. Till now, no other luxury car manufacturer has launched premium hatchback, except BMW, which brought MINI brand in India. Moreover, soon after its introduction in India, the company will launch the A-Class sport hatchback in Malaysian market as well.
The company has already started promoting A-Class hatchback on its Facebook page in Malaysia, as we know the similar strategy is used by company for the Indian market as well. Meanwhile, the official website of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also previewed the sport hatchback with a video, which shows the interiors and exteriors of the car.
For the Indian market, A-Class will come via completely built units (CBU) route, while the local assembly will commence later this year or by next year. It seems like luxury car maker's aim is to explore the gap for luxury hatchbacks in India, as in near future we will see few other makers to launch their sporty and luxury hatchbacks to lure youth population of the nation. Volvo V40 Cross Country is the other vehicle, which will be launched in India and Malaysia as well.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be the most affordable Merc car ever in India. The hatch will be available in both petrol and diesel versions- 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol unit that develops around 120bhp and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engines that churns out around 108-109bhp. Both the engines will be coupled to a seven speed dual clutch gearbox.
