Nissan India seems aggressive with its strategies for the Indian car market, as it is aiming to increase its market share by 10 per cent in the coming future. With increasing competition, the Japanese automaker also plans to make India an export hub. The company signed an agreement of 10-years with Ennore Port Ltd for export of its vehicles to other growing markets.
In the presence of Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan, the Kenichiro Yomura, President of Nissan's India operations and MD and CEO of Nissan India and Ennore Port (EPL) CMD M A Bhaskarachar, signed the agreement. The agreement will help Nissan Motor India to enjoy the concessions in the wharfage up to 60,000 units per annum.
As per the agreement, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd has got a Free parking space for the first 15 days and priority in handling its automobile units. The company first signed its agreement with Ennore Port in 2008, and it had started exports of cars in 2010. Nissan India has exported over 2.5 lakh units since 2010. The current agreement is valid for 10 years, which can be terminated by either EPL or Nissan with a three month notice.
"It is subject to cancellation if the export of automobile units of Nissan or Renault is found through any other sea ports other than EPL or Chennai Port either in part or in full," the EPL added. Nissan India was the first auto company to sign an agreement with Ennore Port Ltd, and the cars had been exported to over 100 countries in Africa and Europe from the South Indian port.
