Ever since the government relaxed taxes for sub-4 metre cars, the sedan space is brimming with options in India. It means that, along with larger offerings like the Honda City and others like it, customers now have plenty of options under Rs 10 lakh when buying a sedan.
Here’s a look at the top five from this cadre…
Volkswagen Ameo
The newest kid on the sedan block also happens to be one of the least expensive of the lot. And what is more surprising is that the Ameo somehow manages to be even cheaper than the Polo hatchback that it is based on. Add a high dose of technology and excellent ride quality, and the compact sedan is a fantastic buy at Rs 5.24 lakh.
Ford Figo Aspire
According to many in our newsroom, the Ford Figo Aspire was the sedan of the year among its contemporaries in 2015. And given its long list of upsides, including bolstered safety, a double clutch automatic on the petrol and a fantastic diesel motor, we expect it to hold fort against its upcoming rivals too. The pretty Ford is available at Rs 5.21 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
The successor to the SX4 is all about style, with a chrome-festooned grille and projector headlamps. A hybrid powertrain option on the diesel, space for five adults to sit comfortably, and features like a touchscreen entertainment system, GPS navigation, reverse parking camera and leather seats make it a value-for-money buy at Rs 7.53 lakh.
Hyundai Verna
The Korean carmaker staked its claim in this quickly growing segment with an updated version of the Verna last year that boasts of a highly improved suspension package. Other USPs on the Verna include a wide array of powertrain options (both diesel and petrol) and one of the best safety features list, including six airbags. All this, at a starting price of Rs 7.87 lakh.
Honda City
It’s not every day that a car consistently manages to lure Indian customers, that too for close to two decades. One of the largest selling sedans, the City thus earns a special mention on this list. The current generation one casts its spell on buyers through fresh looks, a peppy diesel engine and tech laden interiors. You can make this cult car yours at Rs 8.02 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
