You can now book the new Beetle for Rs 1 Lac. The German automaker is re-launching the beetle in the country after discontinuation of the previous model a couple of years ago.
Volkswagen India has detailed the new Beetle and started accepting bookings for the same. The German automaker is re-launching the Beetle in the country after a brief discontinuation and the vehicle is likely to come through the CBU-route like before and is expected to be priced in the vicinity of 30 lacs. The vehicle can be booked with a payment of Rs 1 lac and will rival the Mini Cooper S and Fiat’s Abarth 595 Competizione.
Speaking of the features, the Beetle comes with VW’s Composition Media touchscreen infotainment system with 8 speaker system. The connectivity options include - USB, AUX-IN and Bluetooth connectivity. The headlights are Bi-xenon with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and the fog lamps feature static cornering lights. The rear taillamps are also LED. On the inside, the seats are upholstered in leather along with the steering wheel, gearshift knob and handbrake lever. The vehicle offers ambient light with three color options. It also features panoramic sunroof, front seats with height adjustment and lumbar support along with heating option; ORVMs - power-adjustable, folding and heated; auto rain and light sensors, cruise control, etc.
In terms of safety, the new Beetle gets standard 6-airbags - driver and front passenger airbags (with passenger airbag de-activation) along with side and combined curtain airbags. The vehicle also features hill-hold function along with ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), ASR (Anti-slip Regulation), EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and EDTC (Engine Drag Torque Control).
As of now, the Beetle will be available with a single engine option. The motor is the VW’s 1.4-liter TSI - turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. The motor generates 150 PS. The power figures are less compared to the recently launched Fiat’s - Abarth 595 Competizione and Mini Cooper S which was launched earlier this year. Moreover, it also comes with a start-stop system with regenerative braking. It rides on 205 / 60 cross-section R16 alloys wheels with a space saver 16-inch spare wheel.
