Airline stocks gain on good growth in passengers in January to July period

Shares of three airline companies rose 1.19% to 2.45% at 15:00 IST on BSE after data showed that passengers carried by domestic airlines rose 23.01% to 5.6 crore during the period January to July 2016 over January to July 2015.

Ministry of Civil Aviation announced the data after market hours on Friday, 19 August 2016.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 37.87 points or 0.13% at 28,085.57.

Jet Airways (India) (up 2.45% to Rs 550.85), SpiceJet (up 1.19% to Rs 59.4) and InterGlobe Aviation (up 2.14% to Rs 899.10) gained.

The passenger load factor of Jet Airways stood at 83.8 in July 2016 higher than 79.1 in June 2016. The passenger load factor of SpiceJet stood at 92 in July 2016 slightly lower than 93 in June 2016. The passenger load factor of IndiGo, budget carrier owned by InterGlobe Aviation, stood at 83.6 in July 2016 higher than 77.9 in June 2016.
