Describing the WTO agreement at the Bali Ministerial Meeting as historic, ASSOCHAM Secretary General Mr D S Rawat said the deal reached after strenuous efforts of 159 trade ministers has bolstered the leadership position of India among the developing nations since Commerce and Industry Minister Mr Anand Sharma fought for the rightful dues of farmers and poor of the entire developing world.

While agreement on food security will ensure a fair deal for the subsistence farmers and the vulnerable sections in the developing countries, the deal on trade facilitation will improve efficiency at the international trade borders and reduce the transaction costs, particularly for the Indian exporters, said Mr. Rawat.

Mr Rawat congratulated Mr Anand Sharma and the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for standing firm in Bali to protect India's core interests.
