Australia Market ends 0.5% down; materials, lenders lead retreat

Australian share market finished session lower Tuesday, 16 January 2018, with shares of material and resources being notable losers due to weak iron ore and coking coal prices. The local market suffered a lack of leadership with US markets closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King Jnr holiday. The S&P/ASX 200 index fell 0.5%, or 28.5 points to 6,048.6 at the close of trade.
