Cigarette major ITC has reportedly raised the prices of select cigarette brands like Classic and Gold Flake Kings by up to Rs 10 per pack in the wake of hike in excise duty on cigarettes in the Budget. In the Union Budget for 2014-15 presented in Parliament on 10 July 2014, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced an increase in excise duty on cigarettes in the range of 11% to 72%.

Power Grid Corporation of India's net profit rose 9.24% to Rs 1136.51 crore on 12.13% rise in total income to Rs 4075.11 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013. The result was announced after market hours on Monday, 4 August 2014.
On a consolidated basis, Tata Communications reported net loss of Rs 21.38 crore in Q1 June 2014 as compared to net profit of Rs 94.52 crore in Q1 June 2013. Total income from operations rose 13.64% to Rs 5111.72 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013.
"Consequent to the order of the Bombay High Court dated 24 January 2014, approving the Scheme of Arrangement, the transfer of the IDC division (Colocation service division of the Company) to Tata Communications Data Centers Private (TCDC) was effected from 1 January 2013 in terms of the Scheme during the quarter ended 31 March 2014. Accordingly the results for the standalone quarter ended 31 March 2014 reflect the effect of the Scheme and are not comparable with the results of the other periods," Tata Communications said.

Indraprastha Gas said its board has decided to invest in the equity shares of Maharashtra Natural Gas (MNGL), which is engaged in city gas distribution business in Pune (Maharashtra), by acquiring 5 crore equity shares of Rs 10 each of MNGL at Rs 38 per equity share, aggregating to Rs. 190 crore from certain financial investor shareholders of MNGL in such a manner so that upon completion of the proposed transaction the company's shareholding in MNGL shall not exceed 50% of the issued, subscribed and paid up share capital of MNGL. The same is subject to the finalization and execution of definitive agreements (share purchase agreements) in this regard and compliance with applicable laws.
