The BSE Mid-Cap and Small-Cap indices dropped by 1.1% and 1.9%, respectively, at 13:25 IST on BSE, with both these indices registering higher fall than the Sensex's decline in percentage terms.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 170.52 points, or 0.69%, to 24,368.48
The broad market depicted weakness. There were over three losers against every gainer on BSE. 2,049 shares declined and 550 shares rose. A total of 94 shares were unchanged.
Top losers in the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index were Crompton Greaves (down 22.41%), Jindal Steel & Power (down 6.4%), Container Corporation of India (down 5.22%), Tata Communications (down 5.08%) and JSW Energy (down 4.52%).
Top losers in the S&P BSE Small-Cap index were Visagar Polytex (down 15.05%), Suzlon Energy (down 12.06%), Himachal Futuristic Communications (down 11.99%), Snowman Logistics (down 8.96%) and Hitachi Home & Life Solutions (India) (down 9.13%).
The BSE Mid-Cap index had underperformed the market over the past one month till 2 February 2016, falling 8.46% compared with 6.20% decline in the Sensex. The index, however, outperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 6.27% as against Sensex's 7.61% fall.
