China market rises to 8-month highs

Mainland China share market posted modest gains on Monday, 18 August 2014, led by shipping and technology companies, while developers declined amid sign of deepening slump in the nation's housing market. The benchmark Shanghai Composite rose 0.6% to close at 2,239.47, the highest level since 5 December 2013. Turnover decreased to 141.49 billion yuan from yesterday's 141.70 billion yuan.
